The children of the daily centre Firule, a part of the
Centre for education “Juraj Bonači” have positively surprised on Tuesday, when Marino,
the mascot of the IAAF / VTB Bank Continental Cup Split 2010 came to visit them. Namely, it was the children from the Centre “Juraj Bonači” who designed the mascot under supervision and help of their visual arts workshop leader
Snježana Čotić.
During this visit, the Director of the Continental Cup, Mr. Siniša Ergotić presented the manager of the Centre, Mrs. Jasenka Pleadin Raić, as symbol of gratitude, a cheque over 10 thousand Kuna, which will surely mean a lot to this institution that cares for and educates children with difficulties in their development for many years now.
“This act is something that brings the smile back onto our faces. Children love it when somebody visits them, in particular when the visitor is the mascot of the Continental Cup Marino, that they helped to design. In this daily care Centre we have currently 118 children under supervision of our experts. We use this occasion to thank the organizers of the Cup for their help and for enabling us to be come a part of this project”, said the manager of the Centre Pleadin Raić.
The head of the visual arts department Snježana Čotić stressed that the little children invested a lot of effort in designing the mascot and were delighted when their work was chosen at the end. “Marino is a merry seagull, with funny colours, made by children. We all love to work with our children in the Centre, they are always smiling despite all the difficulties and they are always ready to learn and to work.”
“Of course that it is our great pleasure to give this small contribution to the Centre and children. When I saw how excited they were that Marino came to visit them, I was even more glad that we decided to award this institution and thank them for their inspiration”, said Mr. Siniša Ergotić, Director of the Cup.
The children also loved the medals that were given to them by the Cup representatives and were happy to shoot a picture with Marino, the mascot that came from their small, but very impressive workshop.
