The nice and sunny spring day has attracted many citizens of Split and their foreign visitors who enjoy the beauties of the city at foot of hill Marjan to come out to the local waterfront.
The youngest among them,
children of up to 12 years of age could compete in the event called "mini athletics", organized by the
IAAF/VTB Bank Continental Cup Split 2010. Over 300 children ran, jumped, threw balls - all under the loud cheering of their parents and under supervision of the athletic coaches and judges. Numerous medals were handed to the winners, together with prize awards and the event offered great fun and a lot of laughter. The generator of the fun was
Marino,
the official mascot of the IAAF/VTB Bank Continental Cup Split 2010, that was introduced during this occasion.
The Continental Cup Split 2010 will be held on
September 04th and 05th in the Poljud stadium. The mascot Marino resembles a seagull and was created and designed by the children from the education center
"Juraj Bonači". The young athletes who competed during this presentation of the official mascot didn't miss the opportunity to have a picture taken with Marino who invited them all to come to Poljud in September to cheer for the best world's athletes who will compete there.
This entertaining event that was organized at the waterfront of Split for children and their parents is only part of the promotion activities of the IAAF/VTB Bank Continental Cup. Promoting activities are organized not only in Split, but in all major towns in Dalmatia and all over Croatia. Judging by the interest of the children who showed up for this presentation there is no doubt in the successful future of the athletic sport. We also will not publish the names of the winners of the competitions during this presentation, because everybody who came to the "Riva" was a winner of the event called
"Run, jump and throw".
