Split will be the first city that will accommodate the new format of the IAAF competition known as the World Athletics Cup. It is a competition first held 1977th in Düsseldorf, after which hosts the World Cup were Montreal (1979th), Rome (1981.), Canberra (1985.), Barcelona (1989.), Havana (1992.), London (1994.), Johannesburg (1998 .), Madrid (2002.) and Athens (2006).
Ever since the first edition of the World Cup has brought together the biggest stars of world athletics (Alberto Juantorena, Steve Ovett, Edwin Moses ...), so they would contest generated some of the best results in history.
