
The authorities of the city of Split have launched the project
“Split for London 2012” for the partial financing and support of athletes, potential candidates for the coming up
Olympic Games. For this occasion the deputy mayor
Anđelka Visković held a reception for some of these athletes, among them
the two times world champion in high-jump Blanka Vlašić, as well as representatives of the various clubs and sports associations with members that might pass the selection for these Olympic games. Among others the meeting was attended by the executive manager of the Organizing Committee of the IAAF / VTB Bank Continental Cup, Mr.
Siniša Ergotić, the consultant of the mayor for sport,
Mr. Ivan Veštić and the trainers of the world’s best high-jump athlete, Messieurs
Joško Vlašić and
Bojan Marinović.
All attending guests were greeted on behalf of the Croatian Olympic Committee by the Secretary of the Office for Olympic Programs, Mr. Damir Šegota, who emphasized that Blanka Vlašić is expected to achieve good results in London, so is the talented discus thrower Sandra Perković, currently No 1 in the world with her throw of 66.85 from the beginning of March in Split.
The best Croatian athlete thanked the city authorities on behalf of all other athletes for this valuable project and support.
- Athletes need any form of support, in particular the ones who will compete for the first time during the Olympics on London. For this reason I thank the city authorities on behalf of all of us for the support through this project. For me the Olympics in London will be the fourth Olympic Games to attend and I hope that I will have the chance to compete for a medal. I just hope my health will serve me well until then – said Blanka Vlašić.
Along with Blanka, the city of Split will finance through this project “Split for London 2012” the judo fighter Marijana Mišković, the tennis player Marijo Ančić, the sailers Ivan Kljaković-Gašpić, Tonči Stipanović and Tina Mihelić and the boxer Frane Radnić.
