One week before the global athletics competition – the Continental Cup, Split will host the International Athletics Meeting Split 2010, as a rehearsal and test competition for the upcoming Continental Cup. The Athletics Meeting Split 2010 will be held on August 28th, starting at 05.00 p.m. in the Poljud stadium, on the completely renewed athletics track. This meeting is a final rehearsal for the organization, the referees, the time measuring systems and other logistics that are crucial for such a big international competition like the Continental Cup.
The International Athletics Meeting Split 2010 will host some hundred talented athletes from Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Italy , among them the Iranian discus thrower Ehsan Hadadi, famous for winning the first Golden League Meeting and holder of the third best result this year. The Croatian athletes will be guided by the discus and javelin thrower Martin Marić, second athlete of the Athletics Sport Club from Split, the Club that launched the currently leading high jumper Blanka Vlašić.
This test competition before the Continental Cup in Athletics is a fine introduction for the Continental Cup, when on September 04th and 05th, the stadium Poljud, after eight million Kuna investments into renovation works, will host 51 winners of Olympic and 136 winners of World Championship medals who will offer a true sports spectacle to the world.
