The great Blanka Vlašić won for the sixth time in a row in the Diamond League Meeting series, after clearing 201 cm in London, last Friday. The athlete from Split didn’t have any real competition during this Meeting in the English capital, the second Ruth Beitia and third Irina Gordejeva cleared a whole 10 cm less than Blanka, 191 cm. Blanka’s height was too much for the American Chaunte Howard-Lowe as well, so Blanka remained alone in the field at the end. She cleared at once 194 and 198 cm, at 201 cm she failed once and at 204 cm she failed all three attempts.
With this latest victory, the best high jumper of the world ensured overall victory of the Diamond League Meetings with current 24 points, followed by Howard-Lowe, who has 10 points. This means that Blanka will win a diamond and money prize, that will be presented to her after the last Diamond League Meeting in Brussels, on August 27th.
Another Croatian athlete competed in rainy London, the discus thrower Sandra Perković, who came in second behind Yargelis Barrios. This athlete from Zagreb threw her discus 63.30 m, while the Cuban athlete celebrated her throw of 65.62 m. Barrios is now overall winner of the Diamond League this season and Perković is fantastic second. Like Blanka, this young Croatian will attend the last Diamond Meeting this year in Brussels, on August 27th.
