In the
Imperijal Park Hotel in Split, the list of competitors of the
Continental Cup that will be held on
September 04th and 05th has been publicly presented. During this Cup, the leading world’s athletes will compete in the selections
Europe, Northern and Southern America, Africa and Asia &Oceania. The selections of these four continents that will compete in the renewed stadium Poljud beauty were presented by the Director of the Continental Cup,
Mr. Siniša Ergotić, who also expressed his pleasure that the world elite in athletics will participate in this year’s biggest global outdoor event in athletics, as a mandatory station of events in this season.
For this occasion Siniša Ergotić stated:
“The arrival of the international elite in athletics to the Continental Cup is result of successful and committed cooperation of the IAAF and the Local Organizing Committee. In September in Split we will have winners of 51 Olympic Games and 136 World Championship winners competing. This is at the same time another proof of the importance of the biggest outdoor competition in athletics this season, where four continents compete for the title of the best one. Undoubtedly, this event is very important for all athletes, because they have the chance to compete against the best athletes outside their own continents. We are confident that all athletes, media representatives and fans from all over the world will enjoy this first class sports event.”
The Continental Cup is the only global outdoor competition in athletics in 2010, where the IAAF and the Organizing committee will host 400 of the best athletes in the world. The team of Europe will be composed of athletes who won at least silver medals at the European Championship in Barcelona, the same principle is applied with the African selection, while Asia & Oceania will set up their team based on their best ranked athletes on international ranking lists.
