Scoring
- The winner of each individual event will score 8 points, the second will score 7 points, the third 6 points, and so on.
- In the 1500m, 3000m, 5000m and 3000mSC, for each team participate 3 athletes, and the first two finishers from each team shall score points.
- In relay events, the scoring shall be as follows;
1st – 15 points, 2nd – 11 points, 3rd – 7 points, 4th – 3 points
Team Scores
Points achieved by men and women will be combined and the overall winner of the IAAF Continental Cup will be the team with the most combined points.

The following four Continental Teams will be invited to participate;
- Africa
- Americas
- Asia and Oceania
- Europe
Athletes’ selection
Europe
- Selection of Europe will be determined on the basis of results achieved at the European Championships in Barcelona from 27 July to 1 August. 2010th
Africa
- Selection of Africa will be determined on the basis of results achieved in the African Championship in Nairobi from 27 July to 1 August. 2010th
America
- America selection will be determined on the basis of results achieved during the season.
Asia and Oceania
- Selection of Asia and Oceania will be determined on the basis of results achieved during the season.
